The "GLCW" is a group of diverse women of all ages who are members of Grace Lutheran Church. To learn more about the WELCA and the GLCW's synod conference and partnerships, please read on for more information, and scroll to the GLCW event happenings...
The GLCW helps not only the Grace family, but Mankato and its surrounding communities and cultures. The GLCW is involved with the residents of Pathstone, hosting monthly dinners and holiday events; hosting Lenten suppers at Grace; presenting a Mother/Daughter Banquet in the spring; a St. Lucia Breakfast; donating items to the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center's Christmas Shoppe to support the holiday season at the Minnesota Security Hospital and Forensic Nursing Home; Mankato organizations; sending letters to our missionaries and servicemen and women. GLCW members are also ladies who are called on to help at funeral and wedding receptions, church functions, Sunday coffee hour, youth events, and the Altar Guild at Grace.
The Women of the ELCA Mission Statement is to mobilize women to act bodly in their faith of Jesus Christ.
The mission of the GLCW is to:
COMMUNITY: Enable each woman to value herself and others as created in God's image and redeemed through Christ; and to build up and celebrate relationships which are global, diverse and independent through family life, Units, Church Women United events, Global Ministry support, stewardship interpretation, thankoffering services, speakers, volunteering with children, and worship.
GROWTH: Povide a variety of learning experiences which strengthen each woman as a whole person, develop her potential, and equip her for ministry through bible study, program resources, leadership gatherings, theological conferences, Lutheran Women Today, and Evangelism.
ACTION: Enable women to articulate and act upon their faith as Disciples of Christ in all areas of life through service and justice projects, and global and domestic projects such as Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran World Hunger, literacy, campaign support and volunteer aides.
There are several areas in which to participate. These include quilting, visitation, Pathstone Lutheran Home events and activities such as Supper Club, kitchen support for church activities, meetings and other events (funeral and wedding receptions), fellowship hour on Sunday, assisting Care Ministry, Sunshine, Kitchen Kluster and the Altar Guild. GLCW has four Units that each meet once a month. A prayer and bible study unit also meets the third Sunday of each month at Grace in the Heritage Room before service at 8:45 a.m. Please contact the church office at 507-345-4248 to learn about upcoming events or to join our GLCW.
Church Women United in greater Mankato is an ecumenial expression of the national movement and shares in its goals and responsiblities. The purpose of the CWU is to encourage church women to come together in a visible fellowship to witness to their faith in Jesus Christ as Divine Lord and Savior, and enabled by his instruments of Jesus' reconciling love.
Grace Lutheran Church Women (GLCW) of the ELCA includes all women members attending Grace Lutheran Church. GLCW is a part of Region 3 (North Dakota, South Dakota & Minnesota) out of nine regions in the church. Grace Lutheran belongs to the Southeast Minnesota Synod. There are five conferences in the SE MN Synod, all named for rivers that run through them. Grace is in the MN River Conference (4).
